The October meeting of the Roundtable is at noon, Thursday, October 17th at the downtown Capital City Club.
We’re pleased to have as speaker Jim Durrett of the MARTA Board of
Directors. Jim will present on MARTA’s
transformation, with a focus on plans for expansion, renovation and
placemaking.
Jim Durrett is the Executive Director of the Buckhead Community Improvement
District, an organization dedicated to making
Buckhead a more walkable, livable urban environment through projects, plans,
initiatives, and studies. Founded in 1999, the BCID’s active projects include
the “Park over GA400”, a greenspace being constructed over GA 400 and the
Buckhead MARTA station.
Jim is an Atlanta native and has promoted smart
growth development and livable communities since 1996, when he left his
hydrogeology practice and went to work at the Georgia Conservancy. From there he
joined the Metro Atlanta Chamber where he was VP of Environmental Affairs. Jim
then worked for the Urban Land Institute, where he was founding executive
director of ULI Atlanta, and the Livable Communities Coalition, where he was
founding executive director.
Jim has a BS degree in economics from the
University of Virginia and an MS in geology from the University of Georgia.
